Members shall, when engaged in the normal course of caring for, breeding, selling, exhibiting and /or judging purebred dogs, abide by and uphold the principles of the Constitution and By-Laws of the Akita Club of Alberta and of the Canadian Kennel Club.
Members shall strive to gain respect for their participation and that of their fellow members in the foregoing activities and to make the best possible contribution to the improvement of the quality, temperament, health and welfare of purebred dogs at all levels.
Members shall not engage in the breeding or selling of dogs which are not purebred, either as a principal, agent, intermediary or otherwise. A member becoming engaged in any of these practices shall automatically forfeit membership.

Members shall keep dogs in a clean, healthy environment and provide health protection for them through routine worming, inoculations and necessary veterinary care.

Members when breeding shall:

1. Conscientiously plan the placing of the resulting expected offspring.

2. Strive to maintain or improve the desired qualities and type of the breed.

3. a) Members will stand behind the quality and condition of' their stock. A member selling a dog or puppy which he knows to have a physical condition or serious deviation from the standard which indicates that the breeding of the animal would be detrimental to the welfare of breed will so inform the buyer, and the sale will be made with an agreement in writing signed by both the buyer and the seller that the dog is not to be bred. Additional agreements pertaining to spaying or neutering of the animal are encouraged.

b) All breedings will be planned and aimed at improvement of the breed. The member will be familiar with the standard and will do everything in his power to discourage breeding from clearly inferior specimens of the breed, or to any such specimens with his stud. No dogs exhibiting a disqualifying hereditary defect, unsound temperament or poor health will be bred.

Breeders should be fully aware of any potentially debilitating genetic conditions (i.e.: these will include but not be restricted to hip dysphasia, entropian, etc.) which could be passed on to the offspring from either sire or dam, and not use stock which he feels will pass on debilitating traits to their offspring.

4. Shall not supply animals to pet shops, commercial brokers or dealers and includes in all stud contracts an agreement to be signed by the owner of the bitch that no puppies resulting from the mating will be wholesaled, sold or given to pet shops or wholesale dog breeders or dealers.

5. Shall not supply animals for raffles, give-away prizes, or similar prizes.

6. Use the Canadian Kennel Club "Non-Breeding Agreement" when disposing of unspayed bitches or complete males not intended for future breeding and urge the spaying and neutering of such animals by the purchaser. This official agreement can also be used when selling any animal as it can be removed at any time at the discretion of the seller.

7. Comply with the provisions of the Live Stock Pedigree Act and the By-laws of the C.K.C. in respect to litter registrations and transfers of ownerships.

NOTE: The Live Stock Pedigree Act, a Federal Statute, requires that when a person sells a dog as purebred, or contracts to sell a dog as purebred, he must furnish, or agree to furnish, a Certificate of Registration together with fully recorded transfer of ownership to the buyer.
